Watson Carbon project
The Watson Carbon Project, located near Armidale in northern NSW, has been issued 5,585 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) under the ACCU Scheme, the first in the New England region to do so under the 2021 method.
Landholder Geoff Fox and lessee Mitch Lee manage the 300-hectare property alongside Gorm Kirsch. Since taking over, they’ve implemented adaptive grazing, improved groundcover, and invested in solar-powered water systems and flexible paddocks.
Supported by AgriProve’s soil carbon systems, the project achieved credits ahead of schedule, proving that practical, data-backed changes can deliver strong productivity and environmental outcomes.
Project Highlights:
First soil carbon project in the New England region to be issued credits under the 2021 method
5,585 ACCUs delivered ahead of schedule
Improved grazing systems, soil health, and water infrastructure
Results
Since transitioning from traditional set stocking to an adaptive rotational grazing system, the Watson Carbon Project has significantly improved farm performance. The introduction of rest periods, digital planning tools, and enhanced groundcover has supported increased pasture productivity and resilience.
Over 120 flexible grazing subdivisions were created through investment in solar-powered water systems, additional troughs, and extensive fencing upgrades. These changes have allowed for improved groundcover, better pasture utilisation, and long-term resilience.
Geoff Fox: “I was spending a ton of money just feeding our cattle over winter and early spring. With these management changes, we shifted the whole cost structure of our business, focusing on pasture quality and livestock performance instead. The results speak for themselves.”
“I see carbon sequestration as a co-benefit to profit optimisation. If you’re doing the right thing by your farm — improving soil, pasture and management — then carbon build-up will follow.”
WHY AGRIPROVE
AgriProve uses data driven tools and unique financing mechanisms to make regenerative grazing accessible and profitable for farmers. Partnering with landholders and industry leaders to mutually benefit from carbon project success. Our unique ACCU success fee model removes the risk and creates a true partnership for the entirety of the project.
Utilising AgriProve’s innovative, digitally enabled Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) model project partners benefit from the expedited soil sampling and carbon crediting process.
““We’ve completely changed how this property functions. People thought we were crazy, but now they look at our pastures and cattle and say, ‘Wow’. We’re not just managing land better—we’ve created a more profitable, resilient farm.”
