barwick Carbon project

The Barwick Carbon Project, located in Kaniva, Victoria, has been issued 10,548 ACCUs under the ACCU Scheme, one of the largest soil carbon issuances in the state.

Landholder Geoff Vivian manages the 850-hectare mixed farming enterprise and, with support from AgriProve, LawrieCo, and agronomist Jamie Weatherald, implemented a biology-led fertiliser program to build soil health.

In just 18 months, treated areas saw an average increase of 7.1 tC/ha, totalling 3,870 tonnes of soil carbon, while untreated areas showed no gain, proving the impact of targeted management.

Project Highlights:

• One of the largest soil carbon credit issuances in Victoria to date
• 10,548 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) issued under the ACCU Scheme
• Average increase of 7.1 tC/ha in treated areas using biology-led fertiliser strategy

Results

With AgriProve as the project aggregator, the Barwick Carbon Project demonstrates how meaningful change can happen in a short timeframe. Between mid-2022 and early 2024, Geoff Vivian transitioned to a biology-led fertiliser program, improving nutrient efficiency, soil structure, and overall system resilience, all while maintaining crop yields.

Satellite imagery in late 2023 highlighted strong performance in treated areas, and follow-up soil testing confirmed the gains. With no measurable improvement in the untreated control zone, the results reinforce how targeted practice changes, supported by AgriProve, can turn soil health into tangible on-farm outcomes.

Geoff Vivian: ““With LawrieCo’s support, we started our carbon farming projects to address underperforming soils and below-average yields. Our goal is to improve soil biology, boost nutrient efficiency, and build land value by integrating LawrieCo products.” “Long-term, we aim to enhance soil fertility through smarter, biology-led farming, while generating a new revenue stream.”

WHY AGRIPROVE

AgriProve uses data driven tools and unique financing mechanisms to make regenerative grazing accessible and profitable for farmers. Partnering with landholders and industry leaders to mutually benefit from carbon project success. Our unique ACCU success fee model removes the risk and creates a true partnership for the entirety of the project.

Utilising AgriProve’s innovative, digitally enabled Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) model project partners benefit from the expedited soil sampling and carbon crediting process.

“We’ve completely changed how this property functions. People thought we were crazy, but now they look at our pastures and cattle and say, ‘Wow’. We’re not just managing land better—we’ve created a more profitable, resilient farm.”
