Guilfoyle Carbon project

The Kemp family, who farm heavy Mallee clay at Birchip, Victoria, have been issued 382 ACCUs under the ACCU Scheme through the Guilfoyle Carbon Project, their first credits banked.

With support from AgriProve and LawrieCo, Colin and Nathan Kemp spent the past eight years reworking their whole nutrition program, combining synthetic and biological fertilisers to build soil health and cut input costs.

Results

With AgriProve as the project aggregator, the Guilfoyle Carbon Project shows what eight years of steady practice change can build. Colin and Nathan Kemp reworked their whole nutrition system on heavy Mallee clay at Birchip, moving away from broadcast urea toward a combined synthetic and biological program, all while lifting crop performance rather than trading it away.

The 2025 season put that work to the test. Wheat and barley yields sat at the top end of district averages for the season, off just 160mm of in-crop rain, one of the driest seasons on record, and soil that was once compacted "tennis-court clay" is now friable to 40mm even when dry. The gains showed up in the paddock and at the bank, with the Kemps issued 382 ACCUs.

2025 GROWING SEASON: Kemps' Wheat and Barley Program
Colin and Nathan run a full LawrieCo input program across seed, planting, and foliar stages, cutting their nitrogen bill to about 25 per cent of its former cost with no loss in yield.

  • Seed Treatment: SureCROP VAM at 10 L per tonne

  • Planting Granules: 45 to 65 kg MAP with 20kg Vermi-Granules

  • Planting Liquids: 2L HumiPLEX ZMC, 3L BioMAX Boost, 35kg Dissolved SOA

  • Foliar Sprays (x3): 22kg Dissolved Urea, 2L HumiPLEX ZMC, 2L BioMAX Boost, 2L PhosCAL
