11 July 2025: Ian Clarke of Karinella Farm, near Goomalling in Western Australia, has made history as the state’s first farmer to receive Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for soil carbon sequestration - marking a significant milestone for WA agriculture and carbon farming.
The 527-hectare project, developed in partnership with AgriProve and LawrieCo, was awarded 6,652 ACCUs in May 2025. These carbon credits not only provide a new income stream for the Clarke family but also validate their commitment to improving soil health and building farm resilience.
A mixed farming operation with 80% cropping and 20% sheep, Karinella Farm receives just 365mm of annual rainfall - showing that even low-rainfall systems have the potential to build and store carbon with the right management.
Ian’s soil health journey began over 20 years ago when he met LawrieCo founder Adrian Lawrie at the Dowerin Field Day. That conversation led to a long-term partnership and a shared vision: rebuild soil health and create farming systems that are more productive, biodiverse, and climate-resilient.
The Clarke family’s carbon project was developed in partnership with AgriProve and LawrieCo, using AgriProve’s proven systems to support the transition from regenerative management to verified carbon outcomes. Registered in 2022, the project combines on-ground practice change with data-backed measurement to ensure eligibility under the Australian Government’s ACCU Scheme.
AgriProve’s end-to-end delivery model - including project registration, soil sampling, data modelling and audit support - enabled the Clarke family to receive credits well within the five-year reporting window. The project reflects AgriProve’s commitment to helping farmers turn soil health improvements into climate and financial outcomes.
AgriProve congratulates Ian and the Clarke family on this achievement and is proud to support their leadership in soil carbon. Their success is a testament to what’s possible when practical farm innovation, strong partnerships, and science-backed systems come together.
AgriProve CEO Stuart Upton said:
“The Clarke family’s success is a powerful example of what AgriProve is here to do — enable Australian farmers to build better soils, better farms, and better profits. Ian’s long-term commitment to soil health has now delivered measurable climate outcomes and opened up a new revenue stream through carbon credits. We’re proud to have supported this milestone for Western Australia and congratulate the Clarkes on leading the way for others to follow.”
