  • Aussie landholders get boots-on-ground webinars, peer insights, and proven regen strategies. Bridging global expertise with local conditions to position Australia as the global leader in carbon-smart grazing

03 November 2025: In a major boost for Australia’s cattle and carbon sectors, AgriProve has appointed global grazing innovator Hobbs Magaret as its first Grazier in Residence. The role will fast-track on-farm strategies that build soil carbon, improve landscape resilience and help producers unlock new income under the ACCU Scheme.

Magaret, a grazier, international consultant, lecturer, and Amazon best-selling author of HERD: The Animals That Gave Rise to Humanity and Why We Need Them Now More Than Ever, has deep roots in rangelands from the American West to Spain's Dehesa and Northern Australia's savannas. His work is reshaping global views on cattle's role in ecology and sustainable land management.

Magaret said his decision to relocate to Australia for this role was deliberate and deeply considered:

“I’m here because Australia holds the key to a bold future: rewarding farmers not just for output, but for nurturing landscapes. This is where the next era of agriculture is unfolding. I’m all in to drive that shift.”

Australian producers will gain access to Magaret’s on-the-ground insights as he travels across the country visiting soil carbon projects, hosts regional webinars tailored to local conditions, and participates in AgriProve’s national peer network focused on profitable regenerative grazing.

This role is set to accelerate the fusion of regenerative grazing and carbon farming, rewarding landholders for stewardship that builds soil health, water retention, and profitability amid climate volatility. This appointment reinforces Australia's edge at the intersection of carbon sequestration and grazing innovation—an area Magaret has championed worldwide, now laser-focused on Aussie conditions.

Matthew Warnken, Founder and Chair of AgriProve, welcomed the appointment: "I'm thrilled to unveil our first Grazier in Residence. Australia is ground zero for the carbon-grazing revolution, where real opportunities converge to reward producers for landscape care."

Hobbs brings world-class experience to the producers who need it most. Australia is the next HORIZON of the carbon-grazing revolution, and this role puts practical, proven strategies directly into the hands of graziers ready to lead it.”

Magaret's heritage traces back to the late 1800s on Texas' legendary XIT Ranch, blending time-honoured ranching with cutting-edge regen ag. Inspired by Johann Zietsman. Margaret was an early American adopter of Ultra-High-Density grazing with ecologically adapted cattle genetics, mimicking natural herd dynamics to regenerate ecosystems and supercharge productivity.

As Grazier in Residence, Magaret will be sharing cross-continental insights, fostering grazier networks, and propelling soil carbon as the bedrock of Australia's ag future. He underscored the massive potential: “This is Australia's frontline in global grazing. In the next 20+ years, we'll see consensus from Greens to Nationals, academics to producers, demanding more regeneratively grazed cattle as data proves their role in carbon drawdown.”

Magaret sees his position as a vital link between science, on-farm practice, and grazier know-how—empowering landholders to expand water-holding capacity, build resilience, and convert soil health into carbon credits and profits. He added: “This is the best time in history to be a grazier, and Australia is building the future—one herd and one carbon credit at a time.”

"Australian graziers are at the forefront of a global transformation in agriculture. The Grazier in Residence program ensures they have access to world-class expertise and peer insights exactly when they need it. This isn't about theoryit's about putting practical, profitable strategies into the hands of producers who are building Australia's carbon future."

"Hobbs' expertise adds a powerful new dimension to the support we provide landholders," said Kieren Whittock, AgriProve General Manager. "His role bridges the gap between carbon science and practical grazing management, empowering producers to achieve measurable outcomes in profitability, productivity, and sustainability. Through improved grazing practices, our landholders gain both environmental and economic returns—exactly what the carbon market should deliver."
