Australia’s carbon market regulatory framework is world leading and driving the change we all need

AgriProve Managing Director Matthew Warnken

  • We support the hundreds of farmers and producers we partner with and their willingness to harness agriculture as a climate solution supported by Australia’s world leading Soil Carbon Method

  • Australia’s approach to soil carbon measurement and modelling drives the scale we need to meet net zero emissions and deliver climate resilience

  • The broader regulatory frameworks of the Emissions Reduction Fund and the Carbon Farming Initiative have integrity, independence and combine the best of science, government policy and administration

  • We fully support the Carbon Market Institute in refuting claims that Australia’s carbon market regulatory framework has anything less than a world leading framework for carbon credit generation

28 March 2022: Australia’s leading carbon soil farming developer, AgriProve fully supports the transition to a net-zero emissions economy by 2050.  We find a continuous source of inspiration from the hundreds of farmers we partner with and their willingness to commit to making agriculture a climate solution.  We are proud of our role in contributing to the 2021 Soil Carbon Method, which is now a world leading approach to soil carbon measurement and modelling.

We also fully support the integrity of the broader regulatory framework of the Emissions Reduction Fund as being a key component in meeting net zero ambition and delivering climate resilience.  Australia is fortunate to have a world class program for crediting emissions reductions and removals through the Carbon Farming Initiative framework which has bipartisan support.  This combines the best of science, government policy and administration.

Quotes attributable to AgriProve Managing Director Matthew Warnken

“Recent attacks on the Emissions Reduction Fund are a direct attack on farmers and producers.  Many of these family run enterprises  are determined to make a difference for their community, property, future and the planet and are frontline workers in our fight against climate change.”

“We support the Carbon Market Institute’s recent media statement which refutes claims that ‘70 – 80 % of Australian Carbon Credit Units are “devoid of integrity”’. We too look forward to the detailed analysis over the coming weeks.”

“This is a time when more action is required on climate solutions, when more recognition needs to be given to landholders committing to improved environmental outcomes, when all of us need to be increasing our ambition and action in delivering a safe climate. We echo the observations of the Carbon Market Institute that integrity, independence and robust review are at the core of Australia’s carbon scheme and that there are multiple elements of protection built into carbon credits from application and approval through to activation including regular, independent audits. We note that the framework continues to evolve and we support that evolution including through our ongoing investment in technology and innovation.”

The ultimate test of integrity for the ERF is a test of effectiveness and scale of activity.  We applaud the significant effort, commitment and contribution of those farmers and producers who are working to not only improve the health and sustainability of their operations but also to make an effective difference to delivering a safe climate.

AgriProve stands with farmer partners and also our colleagues in the Australian carbon market in respecting and protecting the integrity of the Emissions Reduction Fund and we continue to work tirelessly to accelerate uptake of climate solutions to deliver net zero emissions by 2050.
