Trailblazing carbon pioneer steps down as Managing Director to focus on regenerative agriculture as Corporate Carbon celebrates 10 years

Corporate Carbon Advisory announced that Matthew Warnken was stepping down as Managing Director at their 10-year anniversary celebration on Friday. He will remain as Chair of Corporate Carbon and will focus on his role as Managing Director of AgriProve – a soil carbon solutions company spun out from Corporate Carbon in 2018 to scale regenerative agriculture.

Matthew Warnken founded Corporate Carbon in 2010, and ever since its establishment, Corporate Carbon has been at the forefront of innovation in the Australian carbon market. Amongst a series of ‘firsts’, Corporate Carbon was the first industry author of a methodology under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011, the first carbon project aggregation to win a carbon abatement contract under the Emissions Reduction Fund, and the first company to register a soil carbon project which generated the first soil carbon credits.

Corporate Carbon has evolved from an advisory focused company to a developer and owner of emissions reduction projects, with over 100 projects in every sector of the economy, and more than $30 million of carbon project assets on the balance sheet.

"I am very proud of the impact Corporate Carbon has had on the Australian Carbon Market, growing from a start-up in 2010 to arguably Australia's most innovative carbon project developer and asset manager", said Warnken.

Gary Wyatt, who joined the company in 2014 from an extensive career in commodities trading and energy, will take over as Managing Director and said this move heralded a new step change in the evolution of the company.

“We have a dynamic team and are expanding our reach of projects”, said Wyatt. “Australia is fast becoming the global carbon innovation incubator for emissions reduction and sequestration projects and Corporate Carbon is at the forefront of this innovation".

Warnken said, “Decarbonising agriculture is the next major challenge facing the global economy in the quest to deliver a safe climate. The mechanism to achieve this result centres on regenerative agriculture and recarbonising soil, which is not only beneficial to reducing climate change but also boosts farm productivity. AgriProve has a globally unique platform that is scalable to deliver hundreds of millions of tonnes of abatement and I am looking forward to delivering on this potential”.
