UPPER MURRAY REGION – RE-SEED FARMS FOR RECOVERY APPEAL

AgBiz Assist Ltd is accepting cash donations through its AgBiz Assist Charity Account to assist people, farmers, small rural business and communities to recover from the effects of natural disasters and adverse economic events.

The need to assist farmers to re-seed following the devastation of the fires that razed large areas of farming land in the Upper Murray region has been identified as a critical part of the economic and environmental recovery for farm business and farmland. Blackened, fire effected pastures have led to a feed shortage, animal health issues and environmental damage throughout the Upper Murray.

The ‘Need to Re-seed’ project, led by local farmer Stephen Whitsed initially aims to assist with the restoration of 20,000 hectares of farmland and pasture. The projected total cost is $10,000,000 ($500 P/H x 20,000 hectares = $10,000,000)

AgBiz Assist working with Stephen and Upper Murray farmers is supporting this critical recovery initiative by accepting donations with the aim of distributing raised funds back out to impacted farmers as soon as possible to enable the reseeding of burnt pastures in time for autumn sowing. The initiative will also provide information and access to seed blends that bolster soil carbon levels for long term environmental recovery and encourage the uptake of regenerative agriculture methods.

The ‘Need to Re-seed’ is a local farmer and locally delivered initiative that aims assist farmers to recover in the short and long term, support local business by buying locally to increase the future wellbeing of Upper Murray communities.

Under AgBiz Assist’s Charter, AgBiz aims to not only assist rural people and their communities to recover from financial hardship due to natural disasters such as drought and bushfires but also to strengthen social capacity and develop stronger local and regional economies.
